Centrailia, Pennsylvania. August 4, 2012.

Here's the end of the road, image-wise. We met up with my good friend Dan in Centrailia, took in
the apocalyptic former town, and headed to a hotel somewhere between Centrailia and Scranton
where we celebrated a highly successful journey with a couple of brews. On August 5, we drove
straight through to Worcester, where it is now January and somehow more apocalyptic than
Centrailia. My wanderlust has kicked in again, hard. I miss the road.

the town

"The town I’m living in now is neither a big city nor a rural area. There's nothing markedly attractive
about this place; it has a strange atmosphere – like a crime scene. For example, when I'm in a small
and quiet park with colorful playground equipment in a residential area, there's nobody there – no
children playing. I’m interested in that kind of emptiness, which I feel has a hidden anxiety or an
atmosphere of crisis. I’m not sure I can capture the feeling, but I’m trying to."
